I'm not using any of the Default Pools, Volumes, Groups and when I kick off one of the other Groups, i.e. Windows, Unix, etc. I get the following message:
"media event cleared: Waiting for 1 writable volumes to backup pool 'Default' tape(s) on <server>.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

You have not setup your pools correctly. NW uses this pool
(which cannot be deleted) as an emergency pool if no other
fits. That's why you see this message.

Most likely this is due to index backups. Whenever you do
incremental backups, indexes will be made with level 9. So
if you have a setup your pool for levels, make sure that
level 9 is checked as well.

I see... So if I label about 3 tapes for Default that should help the situation?

Thanks,

Or.... should the pools have the Default group checked as well?

This would just try to send all data to the Default pool
once the group Ddefault will be started (assuming you have not selected any other parameter).

Please read the Admin Guide about pool definition and usage - it is useful.
