Hi all,
How do I get rid of a program that I have long since deleted however still has an entry in the Windows Add/Remove Programs? When I try to remove it from here it says that removal is impossible because a dll is missing. Well there is no entry in Program Files and this program is also no longer in the registry. How do I get rid of this residual piece?

The program in question is the BrightStor Client Admin. It looks for the NTagGUI.dll under C:\Program Files\Computer Associates\BrightStor... however there is nothing further than the Computer Associates level to this path.

I believe this corrupted program is hanging around somewhere. Removing the corresponding folder from HKLM-SOFTWARE still doesn't kill it in Add / Remove Programs. This is driving me crazy. Please help!!

Reinstall the agent, then uninstall it again using add-remove programs. Delete all directories/files and registry leftovers.

regards

I tried to do it. But the program upon the 2nd reinstall wants to write to another default directory (c:\program files\CA bla bla instead of c:\program files\computer associates). I thought I could trick the system by manually creating the path that the program was originally installed to however even this didn't work. Any more tips? THANKS!

Open the registry (regedt32)

Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Open Software
Open Microsoft
Open Windows
Open Current Version
Open Uninstall

Under the Uninstall leaf, look at teach entry until you find the offending entry, then delete it.
