Hi All,

I want to install RedHat 7.2 and use it as a server
(actually we'll need several servers).

I went to the nearest store and found RedHat 7.2
for $59.99, but there is a note on the package,
which confuses me. It reads: "Build technical workstation".

I remember that about 6 months ago, when I had no
practical plans for Linux, I spotted RedHat 7.1
in CompUSA in two flavors (and at different price):
server and workstation.

Does a server distribution exist for R/H 7.2 ?

What pieces (ftpd, sendmail, dns, etc) will be
missing in this 'technical workstation' distrib ?

Is my understanding correct that
1) it's still the same kernel 2.4
2) most of the missing components can be downloaded
for free (I just want to save my time downloading
them over my dial up connection) and installed ?

Is that thue that both server and w/s distribs come with
the same version of the kernel, but the kernel is
customized for server or w/s purposes ?
If so, what are the differences between the kernels ?

Thank you very much !

Hi,

The basic one is quite OK for a server . See this comparison of the difference vs the 'professional' set -- >
...and you're right that most (all ?) of the missing stuff can be downloaded anyway. In some ways you are paying for printed manuals and extra support with the 'professional'.

They will have a third version soon (advanced server) but thats not yet out -->
Hope this helps
