Getting Port Status Message

While running a peer to peer interface I keep getting the following message when we check it every minute and it's idle (no data to pass). I understood it is fine to leave the socket continuously open.:

VB port status of 8 - closed by peer

What is port status 8? What condition happens on the listening service that would cause the listener to get a "closed by peer" message?
