I have a little lexmark z51 desktop printer, about $150 bucks. The power connection, a little cylindrical shaped plastic object where the power cord plugs into the printer itself seems to have gone bad.

So I took apart the printer and found that it is soldered to a printed circuit board that also includes the parallel port as well as a USB.

As it would seem to be a shame to just throw away the whole printer because of this one little part, I'm wondering if anyone knows where to get spare parts, or even if it's worth it to do this. There are a only a few identifying marks on the ciruit board, but I haven't been succesful so far in determining where to get a replacement part. Some of the things printed on the board are ROME CONNECTOR CARD and various serial and ID numbers.

Any ideas? I guess I should also probably contact Lexmark.

Hook the FCC ID number into this link...Then you can search for it with your favorite search engine.
Local printer/copier shops also have lots of old stuff around you might cabbage onto...

thanks gargouille - that's a pretty cool site and we're getting closer - but as i'm looking at the part now, I can't seem to find anything that resembles the FCC number

I was taking for granted it would have one...thought all parts did...see I must be mistaken...but more knowledgeable folks (like those in chaosinc's link) will get you hooked up...

uh-oh...just went and looked and the connector card (guessing PCB=printed circuit board?) is $49...plus shipping?

Yeah, probably reflecting the IBM heritage.

gargouille - how did you figure that out? - I went to chaosinc's link, but it asks me for a part number Q: Why is my computer doing that?

ah yes - but then how do you know it's the part for the Z51 - it doesn't seem to specify - it just says "Lexmark" - am I missing something - I guess I can just call them. Q: Why is my computer doing that?
