Getting Meridian Mail To Forward Externally

In Meridian Mail on our 61C I setup voice menu for our IT Help Desk. I have option 1 sending caller to Corporate Help Desk (External, long distance), option 2 sends caller to Sister Company’s Help Desk (External, long distance), option 3 to get internal PBX Operator, and option 4 to replay options.

My trouble is that I can’t figure out how to make Options 1 & 2 send the caller (external and long distance) to where they need to go. I tried making two analog stations and forwarding all calls to the destination, it works when you dial them from another phone. However, in Meridian when choosing Option 1 or 2 the caller hears something like “We are unable to place the call at this time”.

I have a couple theories but I do not know Nortel equipment well enough to nail it down (NEC guy turned Nortel, sorry) So my question is how do I make it so the caller can press either option 1 or 2 and get where they need to go?

Thanks Gentlemen

Been awhile since I've been in mail, but I think you have to setup a RPL (restiction permission list) to allow the call to be transfered externally and LD>
You mail is probably configured to just allow it to transfer within your switch.

Restriction Permission on the Thru Dial entry, as well as the NCOS and CLS of the MerMail TNs.

Keep in mind that if you open this up, other methods of compromising your mail system will also open up.

I'm not saying "don't do it" - just be aware that when MerMail can transfer someone outside, you have to make sure you have considered "other unauthorized callers may find a way to transfer themselves other places"

So is there a way to keep restrictions on the Voicemail untouched but allow the caller to be passed off to the extensions and then have the extensions forward them where they need to go? I already have the two new programmed extensions working the way I need them to. From any extension you can call the two new extensions and end up where they need to go. Does Voicemail hold the control of the call until the call is answered, and restrictions on Voicemail are then denying the call to leave PBX through forwarding of the actual extensions?

Any suggestions on how you would make it work so caller enters VM, hears options, makes choice and depending on choice, is able to reach one of our external support help desks?

Thanks Again

Yes you can send a call to a phantom tn and it will be able to foward.

don2119's phantom should would if the RDR_DATA opt is set to CFF. However his NCOS looks somewhat low for a long distance call - depends on what capabilities his NCOS 1 has.

Some time ago, I devised a way to allow a menu to reach an outside party "even when the mail ports are 100% restricted"
I would not go that route unless you really really cannot unrestrict the mail ports.
