getting mail over WAN with a Treo 300 phone

My Treo 300 will no longer download new mail from my work exchange 2000 server. The Connection Log ways the socket was closed by peer. Failed to authorize to POP server.

I can't use OWA to connect since the browser capabilities are limited? Is there a way to allow this to work?
