Port 80 on of my machines running NT4 on my network, connected to the
internet is running apache 2.0.35...

My aim is that when it is approached on the public internet IP apache
throws out the contents of htdocs/outside, but when approached from
inside the LAN to the private LAN IP it throws out the contents of the
htdocs folder.

Is VirtualHosts the right way of going about this or am I approaching
it wrong, and so being the reason I am failing?

Cheers.

I'd do as wulli advised + set up a machine solely for the intranet for 3 reasons:

1. Using the same DOCUMENT_ROOT for both nets is a securiy issue.

2. Perhaps there will be certain services the intranet site offers that the internet site doesnt. Running them on the same machine could be a security issue.

3. Doing so you can test run stuff for the internet on the intranet site without havong to worry about the internet site going down (or whatever bad could happen).
