We are running 4GL (IDS 7.3) on a Compaq Alphaserver. Whenever I create a file using START REPORT..., OUTPUT TO REPORT 'pathname, and FINISH REPORT... I end up with blank lines at the end of my file. We have to remove the lines before sending the file on to various vendors. Does anyone know where these extra blank lines come from and how to prevent them? I added a counter and verified my Report section is being called the proper number of times. The lines don't even contain blanks, it's more of extra carriage returns.

We are currently using a Unix command to strip all but 1 of the blank lines but would be cleaner if we could prevent it.

TIA

Hi:

Unfortunately, you're rather limited with the the report function. Depending on your report algorithm, You might modify the OUTPUT block:

TOP MARGIN 0
BOTTOM MARGIN 0
PAGE LENGTH 50

You can not have a PAGE TRAILER section either.

Your present solution might be best.

Regards,

Ed
