I am trying to get back into the serious world of IT. I graduated almost a year ago majoring in CNS (Computer Networking Systems) and back then I not seen without my head in a book, MS Server 2000, Linux, Routers, etc, etc. I was always into the latest developments in IT.

Then when i graduated and got some entry level bullshit field service tech job fixing Dell, and IBM desktops, laptops, etc. putting in new HD's, replacing Mem, Mobos...oooooh exciting stuff. I fell off the Networking path. now Im fed up at this job and i want to do be a Network Admin.

My question for ya'll is where do I start. is win 2000 still the way to go or is 2003 starting to bring change. how bout Linux? I have my MCP in win2k. where should i go from here?

Thanks

Hi,

I get an email from a recruitment consultant every now and again and it lists the 10 most sought after skills - perhaps you can get hold of such a list for network admin field to give you a starting point.

Best of luck,
Tom

based on your academic studies, i would think a ccna cert on the resume would shine some light on your networking goals for potential employers. hiring in as a network admin with only a degree and no experience could prove a long wait. hiring in as a network specialist, lan support person, (ect..) and moving into the net-admin position..??, well, it is what i did. and i then aquired my mcse's while working and eventually got the company to reimburse me. nothing wrong with learning about the 2k3 OS. 2k still very popular. Exchange 2000/2003 would prove beneficial knowledge if you hire into a small company and will admin the entire infrastructure...

good luck
scottie
