We have a database that was developed by another person who is no longer with the company. They have placed security on it so only he had access to modify anything in it. EVeryone else only has read access. Is there a way to get around this?

The database does not prompt for id and password, no one is able to open any of the reports, forms or queries to edit them.

Have you tried creating a new database, and importing all the objects from the other database into it?

Can you get into the 'behind the scenes' at all even? If not, then try holding down your shift key when you open the database.

I can get into where I can see the queries, forms, reports, etc, but I am unable to open them. It says I do not have permissions to do this.

I did try to import all object into another database and I got the following message:

"You don;t have permission to import, export, or link "Query Name"

To import, export or link to this object, you must have ReadDesign and ReadData permissions for it."

ANy assistance would be helpful Thanks.

I did find a little more info out by digging around. There is a system.mdw attahced to this. I am able to open the mdw and view the tables, queries etc in it. There are no visible table, and only queries appear to reside in the mdw. All queries seam top be built on a table called MSysaccounts. I am unable to locate this table.

It may be a hidden table...If Access2K try clicking on Tools>Options and check the box to show hidden objects.

Hope this helps

I was able to find the table, however, I am not able to edit it as I don;t have permissions.

In two words:
The necessary information (Username + Password) is stored in the "workgroup file" Filename.MDW (a MDB file with protected tables).
This might be System.MDW or another file (its name is written in the shortcut that opens your application).
The tables containing the security information can be read with some hacking programs that are available for $50.
But it is possible that the MDW file that is installed on your computer does not contain any user with administrative rights, so even the hacking program might fail.

What is the name(s) of this software and where can I get it?
