Almost there...
I installed Tomcat 4.1.18. configured Apache to use mod_jk and launched a browser. I see without any problems, so I figure the connector does work (otherwise I would only see this page on port 8080, or am I wrong here already ?).
The examples however, all give a 404 error, for example:

The requested resource (/examples/jsp/num/numguess.jsp) is not available

What did I forget here ?

Which version of Apache didi you used? with TOmcat 4.1.18? I use TOmcat 4.1.18 and Apache 2.0.44 and they do not work together.. I mean I couldn't make them work...

SO If you used APache 2.0.x could you please write how didi you ran them?
