Getting and putting dependent files

Hi! I really need some help! I just started using Dreamweaver 8 and I have a question about the putting of dependent files. I edit ONE file on the server and then attempt to save it. Dreamweaver saves ALL the dependent files as well. I went to Preference --> Site and unchecked the dependent file checkboxes. There is another person in my group editting files on this server too and I (or rather Dreamweaver) am overwriting her work when the dependent files are saved. She is not using dreamweaver. Is there any way to turn this off completely? When I edit ONE file I only want THAT file to be saved.
