Backup Exec is acting very strange. The scheduled backup job will go to run, seems to run perfectly fine, then after the job is completed, instead of getting the completed status... the status is placed as On Hold / Failed
I'll take the hold off of the job and it restarts the backup job all over again. This is version 7.01 with a Sony Autoloader. Never had this problem (4-5 months) until now.

the autoloader is switching tapes properly. As far as I can tell, the backups are completing perfectly. I can select the date it SAID it failed and using the restore selections tab and everything appears to be there and backed up. I've checked the log and everything appears normal except at the very end of the log.

Job Completetion Status: Failed

And that's pretty much it

Look very carefully at the log file. You may find that one file could not be backed up of verified. It sometimes takes some hunting, especially if you are backing up a lot of files. James P. Cottingham

I've searched the enormous log and I didn't see anything different as in a job that was completed excepted telling me that it failed at the end. The occasional file skipped because it was open... etc... This is driving me CRAZY!

I've now removed all the backup job selections down to a single folder and it is STILL doing the same thing! Veritas won't give me any support now unless I pay to upgrade and all I'm using this for is to backup my java programs I collect...

I have the exact same problem. The manual indicates that it may have something to do with the "open file option" (this apparently causes the "failed" message to appear). I tried unchecking the option and running the backup but it still says failed at the end of the backup, even though the backup seems to have run fine (everything is restorable). The only odd thing I found in the log was skipped files.

I think I had the same problem. It may be related to me moving directories around. I saw in the log that Backup Exec couldn't backup the folder I moved to another partition :-o I went back in checked Selections for the job definitions and resumitted all the batch jobs again. I think this can be avoided by selecting individual folders to backup. Selecting at a higher level in the directory structure should help. Don't know why it goes On Hold - kinda screwed up. Not a big fan of Backup Exec although it is much better than it was.

Hope this helps.
