I have a power base 180 clone that I was able to turn into my web server, but Now it needs to have its HD updated. have a Maxtor diamond max HD (40 Gig) and cannot seem to get the system to recognize it. Am I missing something regarding clone abilities? I have beard this drive can be made to work, i jus have to figure it out?

I was able to quick initialize the disk, and it got partitionaed into 4 2 gig segments and then was unbootable and ow I can't boot from the system 7.6 CD that came with the clone?

Any clues??

Are HDD scsi or IDE ?

If scsi check ID's, if IDE check if they are Master or Slave (jumpers on the back of the drives).

It is an IDE drive, and the jumpers are set to master. The PB 180 can only have one IDE drive. There are even two settings for master in the literature that came with the drive, and I have tried them both, it seems very strange that it won't let me boot from the system CD???

try harddrive tool kit by wbj So long and thanks for all the fish.

The CD will not be seen if the drive is clashing with one of the HDD. You can only have two drives per IDE change.

Have you pulled on the CD cable maybe, check it is seated in.

As an update: i'm not too sure how i did it, but I put the HD into my G4 again and used drive set up and got it to be recognized by my powerbase, and the booting problem went away this time.

now for my next problem, The drive says 40 megs, but every file takes up 20-20 times the space they should, thus the 40 gig is behaving like a 2 gig.... Is there a way around this??

HFS+ allocates files on large HDs much better than HFS does, been available since 8.1 I love everyone til they prove otherwise, sadly some prove otherwise SO quickly
