I'm trying to test an Active X control in a form (same project). I find it in the toolbox and place it on the form but when running the program still get the Explorer display of the control. I can't figure out what happened (or didn't) as I've followed all available guides to the process. Any insight would be much appreciated.

I always have two separate projects to write and test activex controls. If you are using VB6 you can have both of these projects in one 'project group'. This way, as long as the control is not 'viewable' at design time (ie the project is open for the control but all modules / interfaces for the control are closed), you can play with setting properties of the control without having to compile it, so you can test the control during development.

Thanks Simon,

I actually referred to having them both in a "project" when I meant that they are separate projects (actX ctrl & host form) within one group. Closing the properties/explorer window etc for the control still results in Windows Explorer display at runtime.

Solution: Make sure that the "Make startup" (or something to that effect) property for the host form is chosen through the project explorer.
