getdate() alternative

I am using getdate() default to get timedatestamp of when record is created....does this also change when record is changed?....what would be a better default to use to produce a new timedatestamp anytime a component of the record is changed...the record has only 4 columns/fields...lets say col1, col2, col3, col4....if anyone one of these change in col1-3, I would like the userdatetime stamp to change in col4..(ie, field1, 2, 3, 4)...thanks

You'll have to create a Trigger. The default value is only applied when the record is inserted. See Create Trigger in SQL BOL for details. If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and thread183-468158.
