get_browser() & browscap

hi

i need to somehow determine the users browser, HTTP_USER_AGENT is not really what i need and i found the get_browser() function
but, that requires some kind of set up of the browscap.ini file or what
i could not find that file on my server (mandrake 8.0, apache 1.3.20, php 4.0.6) and the phpinfo() says the browscap directive has no value
anyone knows how to enable that functionality or where to find some info about that?
