get window.status

hi,
in a web browser, theres the window.status bar that inform us of the file location/status while loading. How do I get ajax to grab those load status and output to a textbox or something?

I don't believe you will be able to do this (and certainly not cross-browser).

For example, alerting 'window.status' for me in Fx 2 shows an empty string, even though I can see the word 'Done' in it when a page has loaded, or a URL in it when I'm hovering over a link.

I'm not sure why you want to do this, but if it's to know what your AJAX is doing, there's a "readyState" property.
