How does one go about setting the read-only attribute of a file? Is there a way to do this without the api?

Thanks....

Thanks for the responses. They helped set me on the right path. I have another question. Is there a way, using straight vb code to obtain all of the information found in a file such as it's attributes, file size, path, the volume label and serial number of the disk it resides on, etc? I can currently retrieve this information using api calls, but I would rather learn how to do this with vb only (if it is possible).

Thanks again
