I am using Internet Explorer and I have checked the box to always save a file to a certain location. Now I want to automatically open the file instead of saving it first. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Open Internet Explorer > Click on Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom level button > Scroll down to Downloads Heading

Here you will see 3 settings change them to your required settings

Under Win2k/XP you can use Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, scroll to the file extension type, and click Change.

You should see the option boxes to modify or change the default behavior of any file extension.

Thanks bcastner, that fixed my problem. I was looking more on the internet explorer side and should have been spending more time on the Windows side.

jarnold,

I am with you. It is not obviously clear as to where the setting change should be made.
