I bought a new pc but i have an old pc that has been taken to bits.I need to recover some files on the old hard drive. All i have is the old hard drive as my origional pc crashed. Before i could get the files i needed the pc was stripped. The hard drive is a maxtor Diamond Plus 80 gb.
I have tried to connect the old drive as a slave and it is bieng seen on the bios ect but if i try to open it the message that it is not formatted apears. How can i get to the hard drive and pull out a few files i need.
thanks andy

Hmmm, sounds like the cause of your original computer crashing could be down to that hard drive failing.

Can you hear if the drive is spinning? If it isn't, then recovering data may be impossible without an extremely expensive rebuild.

I take it Windows Drive Management is also showing it as unformatted?

Ultimately, you may need to decide how important those files are to you. Recovery software like GetDataBack and Easy Recovery Pro can often do a fine job, but they need a disk that is working, and they're not free I'm afraid...
