I have about 30 tables in a Foxpro 9.0 system that I want to import into Access. These tables have an extension of ".dbf". Most of the tables imported with no problem using File / Get External Data / Import. However, with several of the tables, I'm getting the error message "External table is not in the expected format" (error 3274). I'm able to read these tables with no problems from the Foxpro environment. Any ideas on how to get around this would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a one shot deal ?

If so, just use FoxPro to export to some common format, like CSV. Then import the tables.

Remember too that FoxPro has that "mark for deletion" record that Access doesn't recognize.

I remember uisng ODBC and thinking to myself "I KNOW I deleted those records, why are they still showing ?"

IIRC, to get rid of them you use Pack.

Thanks for the reply Tyrone. Yes - it's a one shot deal. I tried the CSV export, but there's a problem with it. My table has several memo fields, and the export in CSV ignores memo fields. I used the Foxpro "COPY TO" to do the export.
Thanks for the info about the deleted records and pack. I wasn't aware that Access didn't handle that.

Also, FoxPro has some native data types that Access doesn't like, that could be your problem...

I seem to recall "skipping" feilds during my inports, and writing VBA code to check the feild type prior to trying to pull it in.

Also. have you tried just setting up and ODBC connection to FoxPro ?

I was able to download the ODBC driver use it to import the data. Thanks Tyrone and Remou.
