Hello,

I have to reformat a PC (Win XP Pro). I can't get into Windows, but I can get into DOS.
Is there a way to pull out my email files so I can restore them once the PC is back up and running?
I realize this is an email forum, but I have the same question about IE Favourites...

Thanks!
Amber

Where your messages are stored depends on the mail client being used. OE stores messages in *.dbx files. Outlook stores local mail in *.pst files. Thunderbird & others, I'm not sure.

Sorry I should have clarified - the client is Outlook.
So if I can find where these files are located, i can copy the .pst file, and move it into the same folder after a format?

Thanks.
Amber

Mine are stored at C:\Documents and Settings\bgreen\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Yes, that should do it. It's usually better to import the old .pst into the default new .pst file, but a direct copy/move usually works.

FYI - IE favorites are located at: %userprofile%\Favorites\*.url

Also - it'll be OST or PST files for Outlook, depends on your version i think.
