Hi,
I'm new to Project and I'm hoping someone can help me. My office works a standard schedule of 8:30am to 5pm with a half-hour lunch break at an unspecified time. I've been exploring the calendar display stuff and setting up a custom base calendar. I can now create a new project and specify my own base calendar and have the correct work schedule appear. <<thank you thank you>> BUT, on the map showing the work schedule, all the work days are shaded the "edited working hours" pattern, and the "set selected dates to" option is set on "non-default working time". Is there some way I can make our schedule display as the default? Or is this just wired by MS and we can't "get in there"?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm having the same problem using Project 98. Has anyone any idea if this can be solved? Otherwise I have a lot of calendars to change. :-(

I have no idea which display this is. Tell me how you get to the display (click by click) and I'll try to help.

Tools menu, option "Change Working Time". This gives you a "default" of 8-12 and 13-17 which is 8 hours. If you press the options button, you can enter a different start/end time, and hours per day. I've done this, so I have 7.5 hours per day, but project 98 insists on scheduling 8 hours per day, because the calendar says 8-12 and 13-17. I can't find any way of changing the defaults in the base calendar. I'd have to set every day to be custom to stop it overscheduling.

That's step 1 of 3.

Step 2: Project | Project Information and change the "Calendar:" field to the calendar you will be using. (This isn't actually _required_ but I'm guessing that you also made changes to the project calendar to include Statutory holidays, etc., and this will make certain that the correct calendar is used during Project's calculations.)

Step 3: Tools | Options and choose the Calendar tab.

Change "Default Start Time" to 8:30
Change "Default End Time" to 5:00 (oh, wait, that's already set)
Change "Hours per day" to 7.5
Change "Hours per week" to 37.5

You could click on the "Set as Default" button if you want Project to use these defaults for all new future project files.

BTW, these steps will not change any existing tasks, but all subsequent new tasks will use these new values.

In addition, just so you can observe the actual behaviours, you might want to consider:

Tools | Options and choose the View tab. See the date format to one that includes the date and time. Once you're comfortable with Project's calculations you can go back to a format that shows the year, month and day (and, maybe, day-of-the-week).
