I wanted to check out some of the other Window Managers installed with my distro's, and I started with the much touted Window Maker. Unfortunately, I can not get back to kde. To get started on Window Maker, I:

cp xinitrc.wmaker xinitrc

to copy over the KDE xinitrc (there was still and xinitrc.kde).

I tried to copy the xinitrc.kde back as xinitrc, but Window Maker still starts. How do I get back to KDE?

Thanks. Sean.

I got it! I used the xwmconfig command to select the window manager of my choice. It had to be done from the command line, before starting am X session.

Also, I realized why it wasn't working to edit the xinitrc file. I was putting kdeinit at the end, not startkde.

Now I am working in Gnome, and am thus far pleased, even if it does not have all the apps that KDE has. I never used any of them anyway.

Sean.
