I started to study on 8i and about to take the first test 1ZO-001, however, as I started reading about the 9i track which is only a total of 4 test while 8i is 5. I started woundering the future of 8i. I am also aware that 8.0 has retired.

'em I wasting my time on 8i and should I just go with 9i for my OCP. Why? please clear some issues on version track

thank you for any advice

The issues are fairly straightforward. If you are a newcomer to Oracle, you should work on 9i certification. By the time you get your first Oracle job your company may already be on 9i. If not they almost certainly will be thinking about migrating, so your advanced knowledge will be a plus. Your certification will last much longer, as Oracle won't retire 9i as quickly as 8i. Also, as you already noticed, you save the costs of an extra exam.

There are very good reasons, however, to work towards 8i certification if you already have experience working with 8i. Basically it's much easier to pass an exam that concerns stuff you work with every day. If you need to fill in some gaps in your knowledge you will be gaining skills you can directly apply to your job.

thank you for your response, this helps me validate my decision.

I read somewhere that if you take the 1Z0-001 it is similar to the OCA part one test 1Z0-007 and they will consider it for the 9i OCP. Is this true?

thanks

You may want to keep in mind that although 9i is the most recent, there is limited study material on it to date. Whereas there is plently on 8i.

However, I would burn the midnight oil and work harder to get the the 9i for the reason stated in the previous post. Plus, eventhough there is limioted study material on 9i, there is a great help resource in the software itself.

Good luck.
