Has anyone ever rec'd the raw Gentran Maps from Macola?

We need to customize our own for reference fields and they will not release.

Any other ideas?

We need to do look ups on ASN's (856's) to fight charge backs for one Trading Partner and Macola doesn't use reference fields in their maps other than BSN.

Thanks in Advance.

Progression or ES?

Provide specifics. Would the ddf's help?

Also, note csignificant hanges to the ES EDI on on near horizon.

These are gentran maps and have nothing to do with Macola per se. We are using Progression.

These are the raw map files that are used inside Gentran Server. They end in the extension .map. The compiled versions are saved as .tpl and can not be uncompiled.

Sorry if my post wasn't more clear. This is strictly Gentran maps that are used to export or import into Gentran from the flat file created by Progression.

We need to uncompiled maps to add reference fields for advanced searches inside Gentran Server.

thx

Why not go after the raw Gentran data instead of worrying about a map? I wrote a program to solve a similar problem a few years back for customer chargeback issues. Somewhere in Gentran there is a function to export that data as text files. There is also some type of scheduling or keyboard macro function you can set up to automate the export. You need a complimentary VB program to pull the text files and format them into a spreadsheet, mdb or an email from there. You can also use the VB program to update data fields in Macola not covered by maps.

Hmmmmm. This is a good idea. This way I can just export the data in question and keep a separate db of that data.

Thanks for the tip.

vbajock,

problem...you can't export outbound documents in Gentran. This is from Sterling KB...
===========================================
FAQ: Can a document be exported from the outbound document browsers?
No, documents cannot be exported from the outbound document browsers. The Export function is only valid when one or more documents are selected from one of the following browsers: In Documents, In Drawer, or ?In Documents.
===========================================
I need data from the 856 ASN, which is outbound. There is a button in the outdrawer for export and a place for the export template, but the button remains greyed out. The ASN never makes it to the indrawer.

The raw data generated is obviously ugly and each doc has more or less of certain segments. This can make mapping more difficult. This are stored as the raw interchanges.

Any other thoughts?

thx

If you've already exported the data from Macola, it normally creates the exported text file so you can import it into Gentran. Why not use that file for what you need.

The data he's looking for is on the ASN and isn't making it into Macola. He's got to parse the ASN.

Directone, I posted you a message with an email address you could contact me at, but the post was deleted so I guess they are not allowing that on his forum. If you still need help contact me thru the links on If you can upload me an ASN I could tell you in about 5 minutes what you need to do to get the ref#
