I have a customer that is moving the install of Gentran from an old windows 98 machine to a winows XP Pro machine. Is anyone aware of a document that tells you how to do this? I am a total EDI/Gentran novice.

Any insights appreciated.

What version of GenTran? I use 3.2.1 and have simply copied the entire c:\commerce directory to another PC and it worked. I doubt you'll be as lucky with later versions, i.e. 5.12.

Thanks for the response.

Version 5.3 is what I am dealing with.

In Gentran 5.3, go into the trading partner profile. At the bottom of the window, you will see an "export" button. This will export the TP set up and the transaction document configurations to a file. As well, you will want to note the file locations that are set-up in Gentran for your export and import directories.

Next, install Gentran on the new machine. If you can replicate the file structure that was on the old machine (i.e. install location for commerce connection) that will save you some additional setting changes for the import/export files. After you have Gentran installed, you will need to recreate the communications profile on the new machine. Then reverse the first process by importing the Trading Partner configuration file you created in the step above and verifying or updating the file locations.

I'll see if I can dig you up a doc with screen shots, else Mr. Scheeler may have one.

Cheers!
