Gentoo and X

I must really hate myself. I am trying to get Gentoo installed on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I got KDE, Gnome and X to work, but the quality is awful. I'm still a newbie at this and can't figure out some things.

How can I set the resolution to what I want? So far using "X -configure" sets up the screen so that it doesn't bleed all over the place but it's very pixellated and everything is large (like at 230 x something) according to the config files. The only problem is that if I change the figure to something else the fonts are about the size of a pin head!

Is there a way to force the resolution and size up on my laptop through a config somewhere?

Thanks. J.R. Juiliano

Never mind. I figured it out.

Turns out I was using too many default settings and no refresh rate settings under XF86Config.

For anyone else going through this, check out:

You need to register for the tutorial but it's a good read for those like myself having trouble configuring X and laptops. J.R. Juiliano
