I am running Quark in classic mode and MSOffice for OS X and the document files on the network share no longer appear as their associated file type icons, but are blank generic icons. When this occurs on a desktop, a desktop rebuild usually fixes it and I have done rebuilds after booting up in OS 9 and from the Classic Preferences in OS X, but that does not help. Other documents on the desktop have not lost their association. The program association with the files on the network share has been broken, but not for other users looking at the files from other Macs (all running OS 9 or 9.2.) If I attempt to force the association, assigning a document to a program, it will not open. If I run Quark and attempt to open file from Quark, it will not open. Any ideas?

I"m guessing you already tried "get info" and changing or reselecting the application there. I'd try reinstalling office X as it's easier than Quark, and see if that fixes it. If so, then I'd reinstall Quark too.

Thank you for your suggestion. It turned out that the issue was with the Microsoft authentication on the Win2000 server. Once the user's login was verified through NT and and 2000 clients, the user was able to access all shared files without a problem on OSX (the document icons appeared correctly.)
