hey guys!

i just surfed through macromedia's download site and i found some cool and helpful extensions. one of those talked about using generator objects in flash 5. some of those objects are very useful i believe, but i have some questions about them. in design time, i can do whatever i want with them, but could anyone enlighten me if those objects can be dynamic at run time? i mean like for the "insert gif" object i want it to display (at random) different gif images for a specified amount of time. hadnt read my book yet (my supervisor has it, he's trying to learn flash and wont give me the book until he is finished with it!). old and dave, are there any tutorials on these generator objects?

thanks and i hope to hear from u guys soon!

Godspeed,

hi old!

i'll check out the generator forum later, but i did on the link. i think i'll start from scratch on this one. it was talking something about java wisdom, i have yet to acquire that! thanks. the generator objects interests me because, it says i can load jpg and gifs in flash at run time, something i have been trying to do with flash 5 alone. am i missing something with flash 5 (i mean so far i can only load other .swf files)?

thanks a lot, hope to hear from dave or pbb some time soon!

I looked into generator for a while too and it'll cost you quite a bit (at least $700)just to get the developer edition, and to find a server would be difficult and probably expensive ($10,000 I hear to have it on a web server). I had the same problem as you with wanting to load jpegs and gifs at load time, but the best way at the moment is to use Illustrator 9 to make jpegs into .swfs and then import them into a target. You can load them into a cache from a main page or something (just load the .swfs into a target way off of the page or something so they cache) and then they load up quickly. It's not the same thing as generator, but it's whole lot cheaper. Also, I messed around with linking bitmaps and such to urls from within a flash movie to no avail whatsoever. I don't know why it gives you a choice (see in your flash library window the options things. You can export (good for clips not on the time line) and I'm about to experiment with the sound factor soon.
