I have a data set consisting of N rows of M values. I would like to create a report consisting of one bar chart for each row where the value of each column is represented as a bar in the chart.

The logical thing to do would be to place the chart in the details section of a report, but crystal will not allow this.

That is correct. Try moving your detail section to a group section that groups on the most granular detail you want to chart and the put a chart in.

Thanks so much!

Placing the chart in the details would mean you want to see a different chart for every row. Instead place the chart in the report header and use an 'advanced' chart with the setting 'for each record' instead of 'on change of'
