Generating Media to populate media

I've been banging my head with this issue that seems like it should be rather easy to solve, but hasn't been for me.

-Currently I'm working with ArcServe r12.5 (Build 5854). We have a server with iSCSI exposed as 2 identical Logical drives each mapped to the server.
-I have cnfigured these in the Device Configuration (perhaps incorrectly, see below)
-I have these two devices configured under a single Group.

When trying to initiate a GFS backup scheme to do a D2D backup but I Get the following error:

Issues: No suitable media is available
Ensure that * or any media in the scratch set of SHARES_DLY
or a blank media is mounted in the specified group

Perhaps I had assumed that selecting GFS would generate a set of media(virtual tapes?) to go along with the back up and would spread it across the Group in an efficient manner. How would I go about setting up the Media Pool to have the 23 media 'tapes' necessary to backup this data to the SAN.

backup to disk is done either to a FSD or dedup device.
1 FSD = 1 tape
ARCserve will not automatically create a FSD.
User must create folder and then create FSD from Device Window
If you want to use 23 media for job,
then you must create 23 FSDs.

Would this require erasing or formatting the current drive?

If the FSD is already formated then it should be either Quick Erased or added to the Media Pool Scratch set.

After that the job will automatically overwrite them as needed.

Thanks Michael,

I've been able to generate the multple FSD's. If the FSD's haven't been filled with a backup job will I be able to move them to the scratch set?

Also, what is a good way to organize this media? I've created three Groups (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) but this doesn't seem like it will work as i have to assign the group on the job itself under the destination tab. Would it be advisable to stuff them into one single group for the specific backup job? Can i break the Media pool into Daily, Weekly, Monthly?

Regards,
Drew

the movement of media from the Save to Scratch set is based off the criteria for the Media Pool being met and not if the media is full.

If you want to maintain the three then use GFS and it will automatically create a media pool with them.

I've put them in one group.
Erased any existing media(with serial).
Created a new job to create fresh Media_pools.

Now none of the blank media has been assigned to the media pools and I can't manually assign them. How do I ensure that the media I created to be a daily tape ends up in the DLY_MediaPool?

If manually format them with 'Use Rotation' will they not take on a static name?

blank/erased media in the same device group will automatically be used and assigned to the media pool as needed. Only formated media can be assigned to a pool manually.
