Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Crystal and have a general question about the data when setting up a report.

I've chosen a data source in the report wizard (Crystal ver 12.0) and I'm at the grouping section (the same question applies to sorting, data selection, etc)

The wizard lists fields to group by, and in the top area on the left side (fields to choose from) it shows the fields I've chosen for the report, but then below it lists the exact same fields in the table or view I'm using as a source.

My question is, what difference does it make whether I choose, for example, the ProductID from the "Report Fields" or the ProductID from the lower secion (the actual data table name section)?

Why are they both there and what are the ramifications of choosing one over the other in terms of performance, useability, report maintenance, etc.?
Thanks,
--Jim

No difference. They are just showing you the fields you have selected for placement on the report so far. You can choose from either place for grouping and sorting, etc.

lbass,
Thanks very much...that clears my head a bit,

This of this as a time saving feature when you go to sort, write formulas, etc. You are most likely to do this with data elements already on your report. So they are listed at the top for you.

Macola's item master, for example, has 120+ fields. This way you don't have to go find it in those 120 fields, it will already be at the top of the list in report fields.
