Hey Everyone,

My experience with Linux has been limited to installing Red Hat X and setting up basic firewalls for home users.

Now, I am wanting to get more involved with the OS and build something to save my company some money... and me some time (in the long-run). Essentially, I was wondering what the best way was to get a server running with MySQL, PHP, & Apache.

Then, I want to be able to make sure everything is stable, and create a "standard" install of the whole system.

The goal? I want to setup a system that simply captures a certain type of data which is stored in the MySQL database. Then I am going to create forms that users can use to run reports on the data. This is NOT security related. It is more like usage related.

Anyway, once I have everything the way that I want it, I would like to be able to put together some kind of a package that I can install over and over again with the same results (in other locations). Is there anything out there that would make this process simpler?

I appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks!

Get the MySQL 4.1.7 rpms from MySQL, install them along with the rpms for apache, php and php-mysql. You should be running after that.

is a document on building an rpm.

You can simply tar your app, and then the client can untar to run the app.

rpms give you the flexibility of setting special configurations etc.
