We have the following:
Office: Network with Window NT and a few PC. The connection `to internet is done using DSL. Configuration is Server->Cable/DSL router->DSL Modem.(no static addreess)

Home: Small network (Window NT 2000, Window 98)->Cable/Dsl Router->Cable modem(no static address). This is how I connect to Internet.

I decided to setup this to be able to connect to the ofice using VPN and before I start I have the following questions:

1 - Is-it possible to setup withgout a static IP address- I believe not but how can I get a static IP address if needed.

2 - Whgich equipment do I need to do this project. I was thinking to get 2 Lynksys Cable/dsl Router with VPN. Is it what I need?

3 - Is there other equipment needed?

4 - Is there a book for dummies on the subject or a link that will describe what I should do in my case.

Thanks for any help or suggestioins.

Hello,

You say here that the clients do not need static ip addresses and only the server does. I have this but everytime I set up for the vpn server to come through the router I then stop our internet from coming through. I know I am doing something wrong as they should be able to work together somehow but how is the question? I am running nat on the lan side for our internet and I think what might be the problem is that the router is running nat on the remote to the isp and so when I turn the remote iptranslate off and change the ip to a static well then the internet is lost and I don't understand why if I am running nat on the lan. please help and yes I am very new to the vpn but have been researching and trying for sometime now.

Thanks for any advise,
Holly
