General Network error

When I try to connect to my local server on my stand alone pc to start SQL Server, I get an error as follows :

Microsoft Msg 11,Level 16, State 1
ODBC SQL Server Driver
TCP/IP Sockets
General Network Error

Can anyone tell me what I have to do to correct this please.

Try using the Client Network Utility to switch to Named Pipes for your local SQLS and see if that does the trick.

hi,

I have switched the Client Network utility to the default named pipes, however, i still encounter intermident "General network error". It happens quite frequently. Can i know anyone has any solution to resolve this??

The detail error msg is:
onApplicationException - [DBMSSOCN] General network error. Check your network documentation [EOleException].
