Hi--

I have mistakenly messed up our general mailbox. A month ago, the operator (extension #10) could check messages left there. Now she cannot. When the operator enters 770, and then logs in using mailbox #10, it isn't the general mailbox. It is mailbox #10.

Here's the situation.

My AA Night service has a Dial 0/Timeout option of leave message in General Mailbox. I have left several messages at night and now I cannot figure out how to get them.

Is there a specific number for the general mailbox? can I get this info from WinSPM?

Thanks...

No dice... a manual I scrounged up suggested 9999 and that didn't work either...

Any other ideas?

On a Merlin Mail system there are 3 AA's, on Merlin Messaging, 4. On AA#1, Gen MB is 9991, on AA2, 9992, and so on. You may be looking at the wrong Auto Attendant. In any case, you assign the General Mailbox "owner" of each auto attendant to be a particular extension. They default to extension 10, and can be set to anything. The purpose of assigning an "Owner" is to get the message waiting indicator. May want to check these out.

Okay, let's try to rephrase this question:

Extension #10 has the MWI for the general mailbox... the light is on...

Extension #10 cannot eheck the messages for the General Mailbox. When Extension #10 enters Merlin Mail, she only gets her OWN messages. Not the general mailbox messages.

I only have one auto attendant. So, if 9991 is the Gen MB, then how do I get to it? How can I use WinSPM to see information concerning it?

I try to print Extension Info for extension 9991 but that doesn't seem to work...

Is there a better way for me to explain what my problem is?

Dial 770

Voice Mail answers "Welcome to Merlin Mail" (or Merlin Messaging) "Please enter extension number and pound."

Dial 9991#

"Enter password and pound"

Dial the password for mail box 9991 and press #

Yes, that works... I had to reset the password for 9991

But... extension 10 used to be able to check that mailbox by logging in as extension 10...

9991 was never used. Extension 10 "mapped" to it for lack of a better term.

Anyway, it doesn't matter... I'm killing the Merlin in a few weeks anyway, we're going to ShoreWare ... not as cryptic :)

Thanks for everyone's help!

Try entering mailboxs 9991-9999 one at a time. Some of those are not mailboxes but you won't hurt anything trying. One of them has to be the mailbox you are looking for.

If after you check your messages and the light is still on check and make sure no one sent a text message to that phone. Deleting that will drop the light if there are no new voicemail messages.

"But... extension 10 used to be able to check that mailbox by logging in as extension 10...
9991 was never used.  Extension 10 "mapped" to it for lack of a better term."

So, it sounds like your "Dial 0/Timeout" option was set to Mailbox Transfer to Mailbox 10.
