I have an access database that I need to share with a friend. We both need to be able to update the database and I dont want to have two copies and mess about merging them.

Any suggestions as the best way to share it? We are in two seperate physical locations and both have 512k connections with a static IP. I am running XP pro, he is running ME.

Any suggestions gratefuly received.

Thanks,

Mike

How large is it? Could you put it on a website?

You could enable file sharing on your internet connection - but that's considered a major security risk.

I'm sure you'll get lots more better suggestions from others.

Thanks for the reply, I had thought of file sharing but I dont like the idea for obvious reasons.

Has anyone got any other ideas? Im getting stuck here. The best ideas I have had all involve running a server. I dont want the hassle or the licensing costs involved in this just to share a database that will not be more than a few mb for ages!

A lot of the newer high speed home routers have some form of VPN built into them ... this would allow the two machines to appear to be on the same network but still maintain security. You may be able to have the XP machine connect to the other by having one of these switches at the ME site. I suggest this direction because XP has a VPN client built in.

I have not done this myself so I cannot offer further details.

Nice one! That would do the job quite nicely! :D

Notice a few people having problems with it tho. Do you think it could be as mentioned he put sp2 straight onto clean install? One of the PCs will be a fresh install, should I hunt fot a sp1 disk do you think?

Thanks again,

Mike

It has to do with the fact that the original .reg file was incorrect.
