I have been using general fields to store files,
and now I want to re-create the files using the contents of the field. Is this possible? The contents of the field is an outlook e-mail message .msg I want to print it. So I thought if I re-created the file, I could use the FSO to print it.

Does anybody know how I can output these messages to actuall files?

Mike,
Unfortunately there isn't a "built-in" or simple way to do this. One solution is to get "COPY General" from While there is a small charge, it's easier than trying to write all this code yourself. You might also want to check the UT ( someone may have posted an equivalent routine there.

Mike,
You can print it by putting an Image container on a report form, and then setting the "Picture" property to the name of your output file. Test it by creating an image file, and then point to that. If the name is always the same, it's even easier, because you can set the file name, and as long as you generate the image to same location & file name every time, you will get what is sent to the file.

Best Regards,
Scott
