Hello All,

To be honest, I know nothing about FileMaker Pro. I work with Access and Oracle, and happened to be called in to check out a problem someone was having with FileMaker Pro. And I definitely need some help here.

The person is getting a "General Execution Error" about every 3rd time she executes her database applicaton. They are not using a shortcut, they are running FileMaker Pro 5 and the application is served off a PC running in their office. Which by the way is also being used by someone else.

Another tech (who will not do the work) said the following: "A corrupted table structure is more likely the problem here which may have gotten worse if this database was used from a share location on a network server.
The goods news is that there crashing problems can be fixed.
The bads news is it would require someone who had extensive knowledge of FileMaker and would probably require more than a few hours to complete from my current understanding of the database."

Is this true? Is there anything I can do?

Thank you so much for your help.

Filemaker is not as prone to data structure errors as is Access. Filemaker does track the user count and licenses for the software. Can this problem be duplicated intentionally? i.e. One user is in the program, the problem user enters, gets the error, enters again gets the error, etc. or is it hit and miss.

You may call FM tech support. They have been great for a few issue I had.

try also (if u have not) turning the loggin of the application and then look through the logs. You might be able to trace the reason when and why it crashes....if it is truly the DB desing then u will know if there is a script or any process that happens that might trigger the crash....
hope it gives some leads.
All the best!

Lebisol,

Thanks!! Now remembering I am not familiar at all with FileMaker, how does one do as you say, "turning the loggin of the application and then look through the logs"?

All your help is appreciated.
