We have all the lines assigned to each phone. We also have an AA and CCR TREE. During the daytime, we turn off answer lines under operator. We assigned to each line a control set and prime set to extension 221. Extension 221 is the main telephone. This telephone set has its own voicemail box. We program mailbox 221 with extension 221. Extension 221 has forward no answer to four rings. To complete the setup, we assigned line 61 thru 64 to answer AA after 3 rings. Our problem is in the morning. Remember we turn off answer line under operator. If we let the lines ring, general delivery will answer and the call is dump into GD mailbox. Therefore, we went log into callpilot manager. Click on configuration then click on system properties and deselect enable GD mailbox. Know when we let the phone line ring. The recording says this GD is in initilize then AA pick up.

What is going on?

We have all the lines assigned to each phone".

If the call goes to VM, the system doesn't know WHICH mailbox to dump it into, so it goes into the GD.

You have to turn off Ring and Appear on ALL phones EXCEPT the phone for which you want VM to pick up the unanswered calls.

Get rid of 221's VM box and assign the GD mailbox to 221 and that way all the calls will indicate on your operator's phone.

Even if you disable the GDM there are times that messages can still sneak in there. This is per Nortel.

You can probably leave the forward no answer on 4 rings to voicemail on each of the sets that you need it on (People who have a personal mailbox). Instead of saying what you've programmed, what is it that you're trying to do? Why are you going to the extent of turning the voicemail on and off? How do you want it to work?

we do not want AA/CCR to answer during the daytime, Monday thru Saturday.

Voice mail is not compatible wih the lines appear and ring on all set even wih Norstar. So therfore the best solution is to turn off the ring on all sets except the main set.I kmow that the managers thinks that if they have it rings on all sets they will have everybody answer but from my experience this is not the case nobody will answer.

I come across this all the time with customers.

They claim they want to answer it live during the day and that if they transfer it to someones phone it can go to their personal voicemail if they're not at there desk.

You can set all phones to ring for all lines no problem. If you do not need to set call forward no answer during the daytime and are just going to use F986 to manually transfer customers to voicemail, then you're all set! You can then turn the voicemail off and on with F982 like before. Or, use a ring service to do it automatically, but you'll lose your caller id tag to the voicemail.

Instead, I would set all phones call fwd no answer in 4 (or more) rings to voicemail and set the voicemail to answer in 4 or more) rings as well. Then explain that the staff being proficient will answer the calls no problem in the given 4 rings, but if they are in fact too busy, the voicemail will pick up and say good morning/afternoon and direct the call. By selecting 4 rings, it also avoids problems with people forgetting to turn it on before leaving in the evening and back off again in the morning. **Much Better**
