Hi,

1. The more the physical memory it is better. I think you should able to manage with around 1 GB of RAM Minimum for 1 TG. For efficient performance, you may set aside roughly 30% of this for the BUFFERS parameter at onconfig file.

2. Yes. All informix backup and recovery utilities like ontape, onarchive and onbar, supports hot backups meaning you can take backup of the databases when they are active.
