GeForce2mx400 - black screen with bright white line

Hope someone can help me...
I have a geforce2 mx400.Everything is running fine, but after a while the monitor suddenly goes blnk except for a bright white horizontal line running through the centre of the screen. Turning the monitor off for a few minutes sorts the problem out, but it soon comes back. I'm using a crappy old 14 inch monitor at the moment, but with a better one the problem is still there, but much much worse - with only half the screen visible and the same white line. I think i've ruled out a software problem (reinstalled software, and different versions), and have tried re-fitting the card and using different power cables. Is my card buggered, or is something interfering with the monitor? even tried moving it away from speakers etc., but no luck. I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks alot

We'll take for granted that you loaded the motherboard chipset drivers before loading the video card/drivers.

Try running in Safe Mode.
Same thing happen?

Yeah I did. The problem seems to be pretty random, sometimes it doesnt occur, sometimes it keeps happening. I can't say i've had the problem while in safe mode - but then i dont think i've been in safe mode long enough for it to happen. But i'll give it a go! thanks
