I just installed the new Geforce and everything is perfect, until i get to the vid card. i bought a geforce fx 5200 ultra 128mb. and when i try to install the drivers it goes through the whole process and reboots, comes into windows updates the driver and then needs to reboot again, then this time when it reboots it shows the windows loading screen and after that when you think it is gonna go into windows it shows a black screen with a blinking underscore at the top left. and it just sits there.

any ideas on the the heck is wrong? i installed the drivers from the cd and it did this, so then i downloaded the drivers off nvidias site and it still does it.
It can boot into safe mode and i have been through msconfig
without any success. The card works great in another PC.
I have tried bootlogging but that has not helped. Sometimes i get the message that Nvsvc has failed, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers does not help. I have a feeling that it may be a dll file conflict but i do not know how to sort it.
sorry for the long post.....please help
Thanks

yes i have done that, i also upgraded it to xp yesterday and installed the xp driver but it is doing the same thing. I think it will need to be a Radeon.

Do a check for a bios update for the motherboard. I had this problem some time ago with a Geforce 4 Ti4600 card on a board. The video card worked fine on a different board and a Geforce 2 GTS worked fine on the motherboard in question. After ripping my hair out for some time, I checked the motherboard manufacturer's website for info and it turned out to be a known problem and they had a bios fix for it. Long shot, but worth a try.

Maybe do the driver update/switch another way.
Unistall all current display drivers .
First via add remove programs .(don't restart)
Check in device manager that all is gone ,
if not uninstall .
reboot.
Whan xp comes up again it finds new hardware
and it suggests some drivers ,ANSWER NO/CANCEL until
xp stops offending drivers to the video card.

Now run the new nvidia driverpacks setup.exe
let it finish and answer yes to reboot when asked.

btw: What type od display card did you have before,
and did you get all the drivers from it uninstalled.

cheers syar

Sorry to bump uo this thread, i have the exact problem as Silver Jock, would appreciate if any other can offer some suggestion? I can bott into window only if I use a standard driver from window.

Thanks for all the input, i have tried everything mentioned except the bios update cos my it is my friends pc and he does not want me to update it. I think that must be the problem even though the m/b is only a few years old. He has bought a radeon and that is fine and i have the geforce which also ok.
My sugestion is to do the bios update and and if that does not work then throw to it ****

Thanks for the help Guys

HI, I'VE GOT A PROBLEM WITH MY NVIDIA GEFORCE FX 5200 3D GRAPHIC CARD, IM CURRENTLY USING AN AGP GENERIC GRAPHIC CARD WITH 32 MB VRAM, I HAVE A VIA CHIPSET WITH BUILT IN VIDEO, SOUND AND OTHER FEATURES, FOR THIS CARD THE BUILT IN VIDEO GETS OFF ONCE THE AGP SLOT IS BEING ON USE. WHEN I REPLACE THE OLD CARD FOR THE NEW GEFORCE IN THE SAME AGP SLOT ONCE I REBOOT I GET ONLY A BLACK SCREEN, NO BIPS, NO ACTIVITY I CAN ONLY HEAR A LITTLE HD SOUND, EVEN THE PROCESSORS FAN IS OFF, I DOUBLE CHECKED ALL THE BIOS SETTINGS AND INSTALLED ALL THE CHIPSET AND NVIDIA DRIVERS AT THIS POINT I DONT KNOW WHAT COULD IT BE THE CAUSE, PLEASE HELP.

It sounds like the card is faulty, have you tried it in a different machine? if it is not even getting to a post check then the card must be faulty or else the bios is not up to date. How old is the board?
