hello, I just bought a geforce 2mx400 card. I formated my computer. Then installed the card and booted my system. Once booted windows detected my new card. I installed the drivers from the cd that came with the card and rebooted. Once i rebooted it gets to the windows loading screen and just stay there. I also hear windows start up sound...so its in windows, just no display. Here is the link to the cards specs

Im running on windows 98 SE. With a 350 pentuim 2 and 390 megs. Here is the link for the specs on my chipset. Its a soyo se-6be+

if you need more information please just ask. One more thing...i've also tried the new detinator drivers and the same problem occured.

One AGP Slot (v1.0 compliant) AGP 1x/2x

That could be a problem. AGP x2 slot.

ALSO: Did you load up DirectX 8.0a or 8.1 *BEFORE* you did the video card drivers ?

Can you boot into Windows safemode ?

*** Also, you could post more hardware information.

** Have you tried pulling out your sound card and other hardware devices and booting with ONLY THE VIDEO ?

OH, OH ! I just did some more research on this, and RE-READ you post.

YOur monitor is flaking out. The refresh rate or the Video settings are to high for it. That is what I think.

What monitor is it ? Some OLD (over 4-years old) unit ?

Post the monitor make & model.

*** TEMPORARY work around. Boot your computer into SAFE-MODE, and go to the Control Panel / Display.

What is it set at ?

Anyway,,,,, reset the setting down to 800x600 or better yet, 640x480.
16 colors.

REboot,,,,,, what happens ?
* Also, in advanced settings, you can Change the REFRESH rates,,,,you may need to turn it down to 60 Hz,,,, or something LOWER than the "Optimal" setting that it probably defaulted too.

Please post an update to this.

ok i just bought this monitor. Its about 1 year old though(used). Mitsubishi diamond scan 70m. Also, yes i can get into safe mode w/ the video card. I've also tried booting w/ only the video and no luck there.

more hardware specs: sound blaster live! and 10base net card. anything else im forgetting to mention? let me know thanks

Well, the monitor is not the problem.

So, you use safe mode, and you can get into Windows.

What happens when you set the Video settings to
640x480 and 256 or 16 Colors ?

** What type of Power supply ( P/S) do you have ?

I also remembered, I just installed a GeForce2 Pro - 64 MB DDR video in an ASUS P3B-F, which is a very similar mainboard, same chipset anyway, and it's AGP X2.

sorry about this but im really not sure on how to tell what kind of power system i have. Is there a way to find out? I've tried lower the colors to 256 and the resolution to 640x480, no luck there either. When i change the card to a standerd video card it boots up into windows. Of course the card isnt worth to much in that mode hehe. If i remove the card from sys devices in safe mode it lets me into windows till i reboot(found the card again). I also tried putting the cards refresh rate lower but same problem keeps occuring regardless. thanks for the help. If ya need more info on comp jus let me know

Have you tried going into bios and setting to: load default settings?
just in case something set wrong for the new card!
Worth a try. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

just tried to load the default settings...nothing changed. I'm positive this card works to i tested it into my sisters comp. Anymore ideas?? plz really need this card working soon.

I'm sure the card works. I just think it won't work on that mainboard.

Look, there is only so much one can do remotely, like this.

The mainboard, SHOULD work, I now recall using that EXACT video card,,,,,, on P2L97 Mainboard, with is even older, it has the Original Pentium II chipset - the LX, and it worked with a 64 MB MX 400.

So, your problem is computer, or mainboard specific.
*** OR,, your doing something wrong.

***** I RE-READ all your posts. This is important; I can't see you EVER answered my question on
* DIRECTX 8. *

DID you install DirectX 8.0a or 8.1 BEFORE you set up the video card ???????????

There is one way to tell if it is going to work (as I see it from here).

Wipe hard drive clean again, shouldn't be too much of a hassle, you just did it, and there is nothing to save.

** REMOVE ALL HARDWARE EXCEPT THE VIDEO CARD *****

>> SET BIOS TO AGP card as "primary" or first

Install Win98 SE.

*** 1ST THING: Install DirectX 8.0a or 8.1
REboot

> 2nd) Install Video card drivers. Don't use the OLD drivers that came on the install disk.

Use drivers from ............ 23.11 (or what is the newest)

** Make sure you have the ones for Win98 **

If it doesn't work then, you are most likely not going to get it to work.
Either you have done something wrong, or your Soyo board has a flaw.

Go into safe mode and make sure you are using standard windows desktop and change the background to windows standard green screen and try rebooting. My VOODOO 3 would do this I think the screen and the text are now black, so you can not see anything.

Direct X 8.0 or higher should be loaded. Some games and sound cards have this software. This will keep you from having to download it. My new Asus motherboard had this software on a disk that came with the computer.

It is easier if all sound cards and network cards are removed so the AGP card can be set up. The USB should be turned on in the BIOS to set up the drivers. Also the BIOS may need to be changed to reflect that you are using an AGP card as opposed to PCI. This is an option in my BIOS.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
