Geez, Win 7 rebooted, erased all my email text in Yahoo while in IE 8. Damn. Oh, wait, now going into Yahoo, it did recover itself in email text window. Whew!

How do I avoid automatic rebooting in the future?

Win 7 did not even let me save anything. I want to save all stuff before Win 7 reboots. Damn, that is distracting and offensive. I haven't changed any settings, this is a new installation.

It did recover 2 Wordpad documents. It did not recover any browsing windows open on IE8 on my Sprint wireless cellular connection. Why not? I had to restart Sprint, close down IE8, restart it. No recovery. I can do it manually via History.

Thanks, Dave

Go to the Control Panel, Windows Update applet and when it open, select Change Settings from the left side.

Select 'Check for Updates but let me choose whether to dowload and install them'.

That way you will get a notification of available downloads and stop any Update reboots.

Win 7 should not reboot itself for any other reason.

What settings do you have for Automatic Restart in Control Panel/ System/ Advanced System Settings/ Startup and Recovery/ Settings/ System Failure?

If you turn off the automatic restart, that will not prevent it from crashing but it will give you the reason why it crashed displayed as a BSOD.

The only thing you can do with E-mail messages that you are composing is to save them in drafts (or as a document) at intervals during composition.

If you look through the Event Viewer you should find the reason for crashes too, it will probably be referred to as a BugCheck, there may be other errors mentioned too.
