gcc command and debug in linux.

Hi,
Would anyone help me how to run gcc with debug please?
ex: gcc -o hello hello.c (that's normal isn't it?), but if I want to debug the source program I wrote, I don't know?

gcc -d <the remaining options> file-name(S)

then exec. d executable in d debugger...
