Gaussian Blur - white box removal please!!!

Hi guys....how do i remove the white box that has appeared behind the vector shape once i apply the gaussian blur effect?
I'm trying to layer the shape on a black background but it is now supported by a white box just behind it and i can't seem to remove it.

...go to effects > document raster effects settings > set it to transparent, resolution to high (unless you are working for screen output), turn anti-alias on too...
